Nipun Choir Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary

A Decade of Music, Hope, and Transformation

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Nipun Choir. Ten years represent far more than the passage of time—they tell a story of perseverance, growth, and countless unforgettable moments that continue to inspire and unite people.

The choir's conductor, Dr. Chun-Chih Chen, originally practiced medicine at Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital. After accepting an invitation from his brother-in-law to serve as the choir instructor at Liouguei Senior High School, he witnessed the needs of the local community firsthand. Deeply moved by what he experienced, he eventually relocated his dental clinic to Liouguei and has since dedicated himself to serving the community.

When it came time to name the clinic, one of his students suggested "Nipun." In the Bunun language, Nipun means "tooth." It symbolizes determination, resilience, and the enduring strength of life.

Over the past decade, many children from economically disadvantaged families have gained confidence through the opportunities provided by the Nipun Choir, performing on international stages and discovering new possibilities for their future. Others have found hope through the success stories of former choir members, realizing that young people from Liouguei can pursue higher education and even return to their communities to support and inspire the next generation, creating a meaningful cycle of giving back.

Today, the Nipun Choir has become an important source of support for the local community while also earning international recognition through numerous gold-medal performances at prestigious choral competitions. Widely regarded as one of Taiwan's outstanding cultural ambassadors, the choir's performances consistently attract full audiences, with tickets often in high demand.

Building on the inspiration of our program's off-campus field study in December 2025, we warmly invite you to join us on Saturday, January 24, for both the opening ceremony of the Nipun 10th Anniversary Special Exhibition and an evening concert celebrating this remarkable milestone.

As part of this special exhibition, our Executive Master's Program in Indigenous Studies student #SalizanTakiludun, who also serves as the Director of the Nipun Choir, will present a portion of his graduate project. We sincerely welcome everyone to visit the museum and experience the inspiring story of Nipun together.
