Department of Sociology, National Sun Yat-sen University

Full-Time Contract Assistant Professor (or Above) – One Position

The Department of Sociology at National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) invites applications for one full-time contract faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or above.

1. Area of Specialization

Indigenous Studies or related fields. Applications from Indigenous scholars are especially welcome.

2. Qualifications

Applicants should:

1. Hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field from a domestic or international university, or be expected to obtain the doctoral degree by August 1, 2026.
2. Demonstrate the ability to teach courses in English and be willing to offer courses under the University's English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) initiative.
3. Meet the faculty appointment requirements of National Sun Yat-sen University. Please refer to the University's Regulations Governing the Appointment of Faculty Members and Researchers:

3. Application Materials

Applicants should submit two hard copies and one PDF electronic copy (except recommendation letters) by the application deadline. Please arrange the application materials in the following order:

1. Curriculum Vitae (including educational background, employment history, autobiography, honors and awards, and other relevant information).
2. Complete list of publications, categorized into:
   • Journal articles
   • Books
   • Book chapters
   • Conference papers
   • Research projects
   • Other scholarly achievements
3. One representative publication and additional supporting publications. Please provide the full text of each publication for review.
4. One photocopy of the Ph.D. diploma. Applicants holding degrees from overseas institutions should also provide authenticated copies of their diploma and official transcripts verified by a Taiwan overseas representative office (these documents may be submitted later if necessary).
5. A photocopy of the teacher's certificate (if applicable).
6. Research and teaching materials, including:
   • Research statement
   • Teaching statement
   • Course syllabi for at least two courses the applicant is prepared to teach
7. Any additional documents that may assist the review process, such as evidence of research achievements, teaching effectiveness, or professional accomplishments not included above.
8. At least two letters of recommendation, to be sent directly by the referees.

4. Selection Process

Applicants shortlisted after the initial review will be invited to the Department for an on-campus public presentation. The date and venue will be announced separately.

5. Expected Appointment Date

The anticipated appointment date is February 1, 2027.

Continuation of the appointment is subject to the approval of the relevant funding project by the Ministry of Education.
